Lairam Social Mission is a non-governmental voluntary organisation initiated by public leaders, church leaders, educationists, well-wishers and social workers on 4th October, 1995.

It is purely a non-profit making organisation, non-political and non-sectarian. We are currently working on upliftment of the society which have been marginalized and oppressed by various forces.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The fundamental aims and objectives of the Lairam Social Mission (LSM) are as follows :

  • To give maximum education and mobilize people on human rights, good governance, moral reformation, ethics etc.

  • To focus in rural health by running centres, medical camps etc. Focusing on women and maternity health.

  • To improve the socio-economics conditions of lower section of the people and orphans by running Motherless Home and Adoption Centre.

  • To provide immediate assistance and relief to people suffering due to natural calamities.

  • To help the community especially women to overcome poverty and secure lasting improvements in the quality of lives and sustainable livelihood by means of giving aid, multi-purpose centers, charity shops, running self help group etc.

  • To Care for people suffering due to substance abuse by running Rescue Centres and run maximum HIV/AIDS awareness programs.

  • To Provide education for lower section of the people, especially by running Centre’s for all-round development of children of lower economic background.

Lairam Motherless Home

It was established on January 11, 1994 and is registered under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme. LMH started giving shelter to the first baby on July 2000.

Lairam Motherless Home celebrated its 25th Anniversary on 11th January, 2019. In addition to the 25th Anniversary celebration, the Board of Lairam Motherless Home committee handed out a mementos to those who have had enormous contributions for the Home.

Important points to acknowledge regarding Lairam Motherless Home (LMH)/Lairam Child Adoption Centre (LCAC) are listed below:

  • What is Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS)?

    Applicable to all citizens of India (except Jammu & Kashmir). It is centrally sponsored scheme implemented by the Government of India to help secure the safety of children, with a special emphasis on children in need of care and protection, juveniles in conflict or contact with the law and other vulnerable children. ‘The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children),’ Act 2000 was implemented to provide support for Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS). The scheme was implemented in the year 2010-2011 in Mizoram. The main objectives of the scheme was to build a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances, as well as other vulnerable children.

  • Why is LMH under ICPS?

    Under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000, all Children’s Home should be registered to the State Government. No other individual, groups or non-registered organizations are not allowed to established Children’s Home without the acknowledgment of the State Government. All Children’s Home should be registered under Juvenile Justice Act. After registration under the law LMH started receiving funds from Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).

Lairam Child Adoption Centre (LCAC)

Lairam Child Adoption Centre was established in April 2011, and is a registered Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Relief and Aids

Sub-department of Lairam Social Mission for relief on natural causes/disasters or others. Lairam Social Mission has participated in joining hands with the victims of the following:

  • Famine in Mizoram in the year 2006-2007
  • Earthquake in Nepal in 25th April and 12th May 2015
  • The massive landslide in Laipuitlang, Aizawl
  • Super Typhoon Haiyan (Philippines) in 3rd – 11th November, 2013
  • Victims of displacement in Ngengpuitlang, South Mizoram in 2019
  • Victims of Landslides in South Mizoram
  • Victims of fire disasters

Lairam Multipurpose Training Centre

Lairam Multipurpose Training Centre is a centre that gives opportunities for underprivileged youths in Lawngtlai District to be able to stand on their own feet. It is a centre where young people are selected on the basis of their economic needs, and given stipends and training fees for the selected vocations. In the previous years, training are given in the fields of:

  • Beauty
  • Tailoring
  • Computer (Diploma in Computer Application

In the current year, Lairam Social Mission is undertaking training on weaving, the traditional women profession of the people in Mizoram.

Charity shop

Established in September 2015, so that the lower sections of the society will meet their needs on a cheaper price (eg; clothing and others). Clothes and items of various household needs are contributed by people from all over the Lawngtlai district.

Lairam Rescue Centre

Lairam Rescue Centre is the new venture of the Lairam Social Mission. The Centre is situated in Mampui road, Southwest from Lawngtlai town. Lairam Rescue Centre is for youths who are troubled by substance abuse and alcoholism and other related illness, including HIV/Aids. The centre is now under construction and hopefully, by the end of 2020, the centre may be in full swing in taking care of those in need of help.

Moral Reformation Campaign

Lairam Social Mission takes the bold step in raising awareness on moral reformation campaign and organized organised seminar to make the public aware of the ethical needs of the people, especially with regards to political issues.

Lawngtlai Town Planning & Development Committee

This was created for the development and sanitation of Lawngtlai town area. Booklet on town ‘Town Planning and Development’ was prepared by Rev. Th. Vanlalzauva . Events like talk show was organized and six main topics which were selected from the booklet were discussed on this event.

Comprehensive Livelihood Development Project

Lairam Social Mission, in collaboration with Church Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) and take up project like Comprehensive Livelihood Development Project for the development of the community. 15 target villages were selected from Lawngtlai Area. Seminar, Awareness campaign were organized based on the necessity. The project focus to work with the poorest community across India by organizing and mobilizing people for sustainable and economic development. CASA also helps communities and local institutions to address issues of resource-based conflict through development planning-where people live with dignity. The project also focuses on Gender mainstreaming.
